When you give a gift through Oxfam Unwrapped your donation will be used to help women and men, girls and boys living in poverty gain greater levels of self-sufficiency and control over their lives and the future of their communities.
Your friends or loved ones will receive a card describing the gift you selected for them while the gift and proceeds generated goes to those who need it most.
Simply put:

- The card goes to your friend or loved one.
- The gift goes to those who need it most.
- You will get an e-Receipt, and email confirming your gift.
- You will get a confirmation email when the recipient opens her/his gift.

When you give a gift through Oxfam Unwrapped your donation will be used to help women and men living in poverty gain greater levels of self-sufficiency and control over their lives and over the future of their communities.
We are often asked, "What happens when I buy a donkey or any Unwrapped item?" Well rest assured, we won't actually try to wrap it up, ears and all, and ship it off to Africa! What we can promise is that whatever you purchase, your donation will go towards funding programs that your item represents.
For example, when you buy a goat, chicken or donkey you are supporting Oxfam's livelihoods programs. You are potentially buying one of those animals and it will be purchased in the region where it is needed. Your donation will also provide vaccinations, health and market awareness training and much more. More importantly, the income your gift generates will create greater self-sufficiency, self-esteem and educational opportunities.
If you purchase a radio, hygiene kit, household kit, survival kit, Oxfam bucket, bicycle, training for disaster preparedness, public health promotion or training on gender-based violence in emergencies; you will be supporting our emergency response, reconstruction and disaster preparedness programs. This will ensure we can act quickly when disasters happen and will be helping women and men rebuild their lives.
Plus with Oxfam Unwrapped, your gift of tools or training will support the different and innovative ways we provide people, especially women, with the education, skills and resources they need.
Public services save lives and help people escape poverty. Your gift of safe water, HIV and AIDS peer education or community health training will be supporting essential services that are recognized as basic human rights by the United Nations, but are not universal to all, especially for women and girls in developing countries.
Helping people to raise their voices is a key part of Oxfam's work. Our advocacy work focuses on changing policies and practices, locally and globally that perpetuate the cycle of poverty in poor countries. Your gift of a people power pack, training on gender-based violence or funding for a change promoter will help raise voices and awareness to get to the root causes of poverty and injustice.
Every gift offered through Oxfam Unwrapped represents the kind of work we do in communities around the world. The actual number of items delivered is determined by community needs. Therefore, it is possible that we could end up with more of a particular item than we can reasonably and responsibly program. If this is the case, Oxfam Canada will ensure the funds are used to support our overall work within the same or a similar program area.
Because you're helping Oxfam Canada fight poverty, your purchases are also tax creditable. Once you've purchased your gift, you will receive a tax receipt either via email or by post. Oxfam Canada is only able to issue a charitable tax receipt in the name of the individual who has made the donation/gift.
